The Family Tree is the second project on Compost Records. As is well known, the apple dosen’t fall far from the tree : The Family Tree are from Munich. It is the first and only project from Munich, that is involved in ambient-rare groove, mellow jazz with funky backbeats as many of London-based labels like Dorado, Soul Jazz, you name it. In their stem are engraved the soul-, funk- and jazz-sounds of the 70ties, 80ties and 90ties, their roots are heroes like Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, The JBs, Donald Byrd, Grant Green or Lonnie Liston Smith, their branches tower, with words of Sun Ra, to the other side of the sun. Now in springtime the tree is full of little buds.
