about

Wigald Boning, born 1967 in Wildeshausen, went to school in Oldenburg and started out his career performing as a member of the Punkjazz-Band "KIXX". In 1983, the four musicians debuted on the local music scene around Papenburg earning 400 DM back then. After the gig on their way back home from Papenburg to Oldenburg their light blue Opel tourbus broke down, so they had to get it fixed right away- for a 400 DM-bill.

During the following years the band "KIXX" toured Europe and recorded several albums with Lars Rudolph on the trumpet, successful as an actor nowadays, and Jim Meneses on the drums.
Soon Wigald Boning decided to join the Band "Bremen" produced by Klaus Voormann and to focus on German-language "Reform-Schlager" music.
After this project, his first solo album "Kapitale Burschen" was released in 1989 and sold about 600 copies. The follow up, "Wildeshausen", had even less sales and soon after releasing his third album "Langspielplatte", co-produced by Olli Dittrich in 1993, Boning backed out of business as a professional "recording artist" in hope for better days. Those days weren't long in coming, as he belonged to the core staff of legendary comedyshow "RTL Saturday Night" that made its breakthrough in 1994 and became a major success. Boning's performances along with Olli Dittrich as "Die Doofen" were a crucial part of the show, singing of body odors, white bread babies and jug ears. The according CD "Lieder, die die Welt nicht braucht" peaked at number one on the charts, remained there for 20 consecutive weeks and sold more than one million copies.
But with their second album "Melodien für Melonen" issued, the creative potential of "Die Doofen" was quite outspent. So within the next ten years Wigald Boning took a time out from producing music and performing as an artist except for some sporadic guest appearances as singer and instrumentalist. He would rather attend TV-Shows like "WIB-Schaukel" on the ZDF-channel and "Clever", a science show on SAT1, receiving several awards throughout his further career.
